Everything you need to know about the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund

On the 16th of November DEFRA announced two productivity-boosting grants worth £27m under the Farming Investment Fund. Here’s a summary of what you need to know about the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF).

What is it?

A grant scheme is available to support with new technology and equipment that will help improve sustainability in the agriculture, forestry and horticulture industries. The grant is available on a range of items to improve areas such as agricultural productivity, animal health and welfare, improve air and water quality and to encourage more sustainable pesticide usage. This grant applies to farmers in England only.

7th January 2022

30th September 2022

Which products are eligible?

Here are some example products that are available within the grant:

  • Mobile calf milk pasteuriser and dispenser
  • Rotating cow brush
  • Cameras for monitoring livestock
  • Electric fencing package
  • Automated footbaths for cattle
  • Rainwater harvesting minimum tank size 5000L
  • Slurry separators
  • Fixed and mobile cattle handling systems
  • Cattle crush - automatic and manual
  • Mobile and fixed sheep handling systems
  • Electronic weigh crate for sheep

What is the application process?

  1. Browse the range of products available, their specification and grant values and check your eligibility.
  2. Check the availability of your chosen item with your supplier (please note, items should not be purchased until you have a Grant Funding Agreement).
  3. Gather the information required for the application process.
  4. Ensure your business details are up to date on the Rural Payments service.
  5. Submit your application online via the FETF Portal by midday on 7th January 2021.
  6. Successful applications will be notified by e-mail.
  7. Buy the items agreed in your Grant Funding Agreement, ensuring they comply with the specifications given.
  8. Once the equipment is purchased and operational, submit a claim for payment by midnight on 30th September 2022.
