"We have been using Bloom milk replacer for the last two and a half years and it is by far the best milk replacer we have been on.
The heifers perform exceptionally well on it and we are having heifers calve down at 24 months yielding 34.6L with the highest achieving 42L at 43 DIM, with a first lactation pregnancy rate of 36.2% and a whole herd pregnancy rate of 29% from heifers that have been reared on Bloom, something which we are immensely proud of. The calves take to the powder really well and we don’t get much in the way of refusals, they transfer onto it seamlessly.
The quality of Bloom has been so consistent, and we have recently invested in new heifer housing which has only improved growth rates further. For us this cost-effective way of calf rearing is the way forward whilst pushing the herd for performance and longevity.” - Jon Miller, Hollins Farm
A move from all-year-round to block autumn calving – plus a switch away from whole milk feeding of calves to the use of a concentrated whey protein-based milk formula – has transformed youngstock rearing fortunes for one Wiltshire-based farm
You may think you are feeding what nature intended, but unlike formulated milk replacer, whole milk can easily transmit bacteria and spread disease. It can also vary in consistency and quality, as well as delay the intake of solid feed. Feeding whole milk may also delay the age of successful weaning or result in postweaning growth checks.
Stellar is delivering the growth rates we want, and calves do love consistency and routine, so the winning combination of a good milk replacer product fed accurately through an automated machine makes such a difference. We’ve been very impressed with the support and advice we have received from the Wynnstay calf team. Hannah really knows her stuff and has been a big help,” - Rob Noad, Woodhouse Farm
