Colourful and mild tasting, dual purpose spring onions which can be left to mature into bulb onions. Incredibly easy to grow, for use in salads and sauces or cooked dishes. Prefers rich, well drained soil.
Sow outdoors in February to July
- In prepared seed bed
- Sow thinly in rows 15cm (6in) apart
- Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Seedling appear 14-21 days
- For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks
- Select onions alternately from the row, allowing others to fully develop
- For spring onions no further thinning is needed if sown thinly.
- For bulb onions thin to a final spacing of 8cm (3in) apart
- Harvest in April to October
- In sheltered areas sow August to September for early spring harvest
