Champion is the highest yielding variety in 2022/23 performing well across the UK, especially in the East and West. Extremely versatile, the variety grows well on heavy and light soil, however, its rapid and vigorous development means it’s better suited to late-main sowing windows (aim for late September - February). A robust disease package leads to an outstanding untreated yield of 90% allowing some flexibility on fungicide timings. Champion’s drawback is the low specific weight but any grain deductions are mitigated by the higher total yield. Champion has also shown good results in the second wheat slot, and in its launch year Champion supply will be tight so order early!
