Compact plants produce very firm and dense medium sized, ball-headed cabbages through the summer. Has very good flavour, use cooked or in salad. Prefers fertile, moisture retentive soil.

Sow outdoors in March to May

In a prepared seed bed
Sow thinly, cover with 1.5cm (half inch) of fine soil
Firm gently and keep moist
Seedlings appear 7-21 days
When 7.5-10cm (3-4in) tall transplant to final position with 40cm (16in) between plants and rows
Firm plants in well
Harvest in July to October
Avoid diseases such as club root by rotating brassica crops yearly

In trays of seed compost
Sow thinly, cover with 1.5cm of fine soil

Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid
Keep at approx 13°C
Seedling appear at 14-21 days
Remove cover when seedlings appear
When large enonugh transplant 5cm (2in) apart in trays
Stand outside for a few days May to June (avoid frost)
Transplant to April to May to final position with 40cm (16in) between plants and rows
Harvest in July to October
