A versatile variety that yields dark green tender fruits in abundance. Can be harvested as courgettes or left to develop into small marrows. Prefers fertile, moisture retentive soil.
Sow outdoors in May or under clothes in April
- In a prepared seed bed
- Sow 2 seeds per position, 60cm (2ft) apart
- Cover lightly with 1.5cm of fine soil
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Thin to 1 strong seed per position
- Harvest in June to October
- Pick regularly to encourage cropping
- Plant out under clothes in late April for fruit in June
Sow indoors in March to May
- In pots of seed compost
- Sow singly into pots, edgeways into the compost
- Cover with 1.5cm of compost
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Cover tray with glass or polythene
- Keep at approx 15-20°C (60-68°F)
- Seedling appear at 7-14 days
- Remove cover when seedlings appear
- At 5-6 leaf stage, stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frost)
- Transplant to final position with 60cm (2ft) apart in growing position
- Keep moist and weed free
- Harvest in July to October
- Pick regularly to encourage cropping
- Plant out under clothes in late April for fruit in June
