A popular greenhouse or cold frame variety for large crops of good quality, long straight fruits with smooth skin and crisp, great tasting flesh. Prefers fertile, moist soil or growing bags.

Sow indoors in February to May, April to May or cold frame crops

In pots of seed compost
Sow seeds edgeways into the compost
Cover with 0.5cm of compost
Firm gently and keep moist
Cover tray with glass or polythene
Keep at approx 20-25°C (68-77°F)
Remove cover when seedlings appear
Grow on at approx 15°C (60°F)
When large enough transplant singly into a greenhouse boarder 45cm (18in) apart or in large pots or grow bags
For cold frame crops stand in cooler conditions for a few days late May (avoid frost)
Transplant to cold frame in June
Keep moist and weed free
Train plants up wire supports and pinch out the growing tip at roof level.
Cucumber will be bitter if pollinated so remove any male flowers that form (those swelling behind the flower)
Harvest in July to October
Harvest cold frame crops from August
apply a liquid feed every 2-3 weeks when fruit begins to swell
