Very easy to grow as 'baby leaves' or as 'loose leaf' lettuces with attractive red tinged or green oak leaf-shaped leaves. Good bolt resistance. Prefers rich, well drained soil.
Sow outdoors in March to August
- In a prepared seed bed
- Sow thinly in rows 25cm (10in) apart
- Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Seedling appear 7-14 days
- For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks
- For baby leaves, thin to 5cm (2in) apart or 20cm (8in) apart to grow mature lettuces
- Keep moist and weed free
- Protect early sowing's with clothes and later sowing's to over-winter
- Harvest in April to October
- Individual baby leaves can be picked a s required, a few from each plant
- Leaves then regrow for up to 4 cuts
- Pick whole heads from June
- Packet contains lettuce salad bowl and lettuce red salad bowl in equal quantities
