Sow indoors all year round for indoor pots
- In pots of moist compost
- Sow thinly with a fine layer of compost
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid
- Keep at approx. 15-20°C (60-68°F)
- Seedlings appear 14-21 days
- Remove cover when seedlings appear
- Place in a light airy location
- Pick the leaves as required all year round
- Surplus leaves can be dried but better flavour is retained by freezing
Sow outdoors in March to July
- In the growing position
- Sow thinly, cover lightly with fine soil
- Firm and gently and keep moist
- Thin when large enough, spacing 20cm (8in) apart
- Clothe protection in the autumn will extend the harvest season
- Pick the leaves as required from June onwards
- Surplus leaves can be dried but better flavour is retained by freezing
