Poultry Farm Hygiene

Poultry can be affected by a variety of diseases and parasites, but by introducing and maintaining biosecurity measures, you can help prevent the spread of diseases.

Poultry farmers can increase the biosecurity of flocks through standard control measures, such as washing hands after handling birds, ensuring equipment, vehicles, clothing and footwear is cleaned and disinfected before and after contact with poultry and disinfecting boots when travelling between farms.

Daily inspection of poultry by trained staff, in good lighting conditions, is a good method of preventing serious outbreaks of disease. Inspections will enable you to detect early signs of disease simply by noting changes in the behaviour and condition of individual birds.
