Welcome to our Maize growing guide
Not only are extreme weather patterns becoming more common, but they are also becoming less predictable. The 2024 season served as a reminder that under difficult growing conditions, early maturing maize varieties are often a more reliable proposition and present less risk than later maturing lines.
Many of those who decided to sow early varieties in 2024, were able to harvest crops at or approaching the correct stage of maturity. Later varieties did not fare so well.
We have no idea what the 2025 season will look like, but hopefully growing conditions will be more favourable. Obviously, growers have no influence over the weather, but careful choice of variety and attention to detail regarding crop nutrition can help to achieve a good outcome at harvest.
