Puna II is a broad leaved perennial forage crop that can be grown as a pure stand or as part of a mixture. Its deep “tap” root provides high forage yields as well as high protein and mineral content for the animal. Puna II has achieved outstanding animal performance (for example lamb growth rates of 300-400g/day) and can yield up to 15tDM/ha in a season.
It is recognised as a high quality feed throughout the summer months. When the crop is growing grazing should be light and once established the crop should be rotationally grazed allowing a period of around four weeks for best performance and persistence. Puna II prefers well drained soils and it is advised to sow the seed between April and August.
