RGT Illustrious has been performing consistently for several years, despite our ever more erratic climate, and this variety has delivered excellent baking performances making it widely demanded by millers. The “Hereward-like” quality alongside this consistent performance has proved attractive among end users, and the variety delivers excellent baking performance even at lower protein levels. Suited to the East and West regions, as far as Yorkshire, but its field performance drops away any further North. Best suited to first wheat fields and heavier soils, with medium tillering capacity Illustrious can be moderately competitive in grass weed situations. The best-combined disease resistance package of all Group 1 Milling wheat, it boasts the best-untreated yield (85%).
