A common question asked is what is the difference between hay and Haylage, the answer is essentially quite simple Hay is dried grass and haylage is "wilted" grass. Haylage is grass that is cut earlier in its growth cycle, it is then left to wilt, giving it a higher moisture content to hay.
If you have a young horse or a working horse haylage is ideal as it can offer greater energy and protein for growth. Where as hay is often recommended for horses at maintenance or those that do light work. Haylage is also dust free so a better choice for horses with respiratory complaints.
