Contributing to improved soil health, the combination of the three species provide cover well into the winter. The legume inclusion of the vetch and crimson clover promotes nitrogen fixation, to enhance soil fertility. The rapid growth of the phacelia and upright growth of the vetch helps to supress weeds. Soil is conditioned throughout the profile, owing to the fibrous root system of the phacelia and branched taproot of the crimson clover.
