Sow indoors in March to April
- In trays of seed compost
- Sow thinly with a fine layer of compost
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid
- Keep at approx. 15-20°C (60-68°F)
- Seedlings appear 14-28 days
- Remove cover when seedlings appear
- When large enough transplant 5cm (2in) apart in trays
- Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frost)
- Transplant 25cm (10ft) in flowering position
- Flowers June to October
- Removedead heads to prolong flowering
- Pinch out tips when 10cm (4in) tall for bushier plants
Sow outdoors in March to May
- In a prepared seed bed
- Sow thinly in rows 30cm (12in) apart
- Cover lightly with 1.5cm of fine soil
- Firm gently and keep moist
- When large enough thin to 5cm (2in) apart.
- After 2-3 weeks thin to 25cm (10in) apart
- Keep moist and weed free
- Flowers June to October
- Remove dead heads to prolong flowering
- Pinch out tips when 10cm (4in) tall for bushier plants
