Large tightly packed dense heads of crisp, succulent leaves. This reliable, easy to grow variety is slow to bolt in hot summer weather. Prefers rich, well drained soil.
Sow outdoors in March to April
- In a prepared seed bed
- Sow thinly in rows 30cm (12in) apart
- Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil
- Firm gently and keep moist
- Seedling appear 7-14 days
- For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks
- When large enough thin to 20cm (8in) apart.
- Keep moist and weed free
- Protect early sowings with clothes
- Harvest in June to October
- For maximum 'freshness' cut lettuces in the morning or evening
