Country Value Parsnip Hollow Crown

Very productive traditional variety with long creamy white roots and broad shoulders. Has good, sweat flavour and stores well. Prefers light stone free soil, which has not been recently manured.

Sow outdoors in February to May

• In prepared seed bed
• Sow thinly in rows 40cm (16in) apart
• For baby leaves sow thinly direct in pots or containers at least 30cm (12in) in diameter and 25cm (10in) deep
• Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil
• Firm gently and keep moist
• Seedling appear 14-32 days
• For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks
• When large enough thin to 7.5cm (3in) apart
• When 10-15cm (4-6in) long,remove alternate plants for final spacing of 20cm (8in)
• Replace any dislodged soil
• Keep moist and weed free
• Harvest in October to February
• Leave roots in the ground as flavour is improved by frost
• Lift remaining roots in February and store undamaged roots in sand in a dry frost-free area
• Pant other quick growing crops between the rows
