The role of the gut microbiome
A healthy gut microbiome made up of billions of beneficial microbes has three key roles:
- Better digestive health and metabolism
- Regulates and promotes good immune function
- Protects and prevents issues with harmful pathogens
The beneficial bacteria in our young calves’ digestive tracts are involved in better digestion and regulating performance through the production of enzymes and other metabolites (postbiotics).
Challenges to the young calf
Over 70% of the calf’s immune system is housed in the gut. So, a healthy microbiome regulates and promotes good immune function. Good bacteria also compete with harmful pathogens in the young gut. Disruptions to the gut microbiome can impact health and cause issues like dysbiosis and scour.
Rapid gut stabilization
Precision microbes contain Enterococcus Faecium NCIMB10415; this microbe is licensed for gut stabilization. Our unique liquid contains the live bacteria and all their metabolites or postbiotics.
These postbiotics give our product its unique speed of action to stabilize (return to normal function) the gut quickly following diarrhoea or other digestive upsets in young ruminants.
Dosage rates applications (1-litre, 10-litre 20-litre formulations)
- Acute cases: Individual calf with scours 60ml twice daily for three days or until symptoms resolve. In conjunction with supportive treatments. Ideal for beef and dairy calves. Can be given orally in milk or with electrolytes.
- For dairy calves recovering from scour or other stress (arriving on farm), 60ml once daily in milk for 5-7 days. This can be started straight away for group treatments during a scour outbreak,
- Long-term usage of 30mls daily in milk from birth, or arrival on dairy to beef units up to weaning. Top up the dose to 30ml extra daily for anything with scour during this period to speed up recovery.
Preferred application is long-term usage
While the products work well for gut stabilisation or return to normal function following scour or diarrhoea at higher dose rates. They were developed to help improve calf health and performance
The dose rate for this is 30ml daily in milk from birth for a minimum of 30 days and can be fed up to weaning.
