Why should Lister blades be your top choice?
Lister has been manufacturing clipping blades since the 1930s. They know exactly what your horse requires, with comfort and beauty in mind, based on years of experience!
Lister HQ in Gloucestershire manufactures all of their clipping blades. They're known for their toughness, quality, and cutting abilities. Lister blades are distinguished by their ribbed back, which reduces weight and heat transfer. Hair can be quickly swept away from the blades to prevent clogs, and the blades have a self-cleaning feature.
Lister blades are entirely interchangeable, so you may switch them out whenever you want.
What are the different types of blades
A2F/AC Fine Blade (Leaves 1.4 mm of hair)
All Lister clippers come with fine blades as standard, so you'll be ready to oil up and clip right away! These blades are suitable for most horses and are great for displaying in a variety of disciplines because they help to highlight your horse's amazing qualities in order to impress the judges!
A2C/AC Coarse Blade (Leaves 2.5 mm)
With the winter months nearing, it's always a good idea to keep a coarse blade in your kit bag. There are just 18 teeth on this blade, as opposed to 35 on the other A-series blades. Because it has fewer teeth, it can clip unclean, muddy animals as well as horses with thick coats, such as cobs.
Covercote Blades (Leaves 5.0 mm of hair)
Lister is the only maker of the Covercote blade, sometimes known as the HOYS blade. As we move between seasons, this specialty blade is a popular choice for horse owners since it cuts off the surplus length while yet maintaining the appearance of a sleek coat.
Have you got a horse that has Cushing's disease? Because their pituitary gland releases excessive amounts of hormones, horses with Cushing's disease are frequently uncomfortable. This has a number of consequences, including:
- The shedding of their winter coat has been postponed.
- Sweating has increased.
- Lethargy
- Loss of weight
Although there is no cure for Cushing's illness, you can help them find relief by trimming their hair on a regular basis. This will help them regulate their body temperature.
A2/AC Medium Blade (Leaves 2.5 mm of hair)
Some individuals choose medium blades because they provide somewhat greater coverage than fine blades. A2 During the colder months of the year, medium blades are frequently employed. When clipping close to the skin, horses with light-colored skin are more prone to skin irritations, thus the medium blade prevents this.
Surgical Blades (Leaves 1.0 mm of hair)
Surgical blades are made to clip very close to the animal's skin in order to help in surgical preparation. In the United States, this is most typically acquired by veterinary facilities or for slick shearing sheep.
A2H/AC Lifter Blades
A2H/AC Lifter blades are another speciality blade to consider for the upcoming clipping season! Horse owners choose this blade because of its ability to blend and trim the feathers.
There are two options available:
- A2H/AC 13mm of hair is left
- A2H/AC 19mm of hair is left
Body clipping show pigs, cattle, goats, and dogs are also possible with the lifter blade.
Prolonging the life of your clipper blades
We understand that nobody wants to be repeatedly sending off their blades to be sharpened, it’s a pain! Despite the fact that Lister blades are made of heat-treated steel for greater life and durability, they will require sharpening after 8-10 clips, depending on blade condition, maintenance, and usage.
To extend the life of your clipper blades, do the following:
- Oil on a regular basis (every 5-10 minutes)
- Always clip a clean horse (any dust, mud or debris will dull your blades quickly!) Ensure they are dry before clipping.
