Increased Starch

When starch is fermented in the rumen, it produces volatile fatty acids (VFAs) which stimulates rumen development and rumen papillae, increasing absorption efficiency. This helps provide a smoother transition at weaning.

Many recent studies have found that optimising starch in calf starter feeds can lead to improved daily liveweight gain. Some studies such as 2018 study by Hu et al. found improved growth up to 5%.

High By-pass protein

Proteins that are not degraded in the rumen are called ‘by-pass’ protein. These proteins are digested in the lower gut.

A calf starter with high by-pass protein, particularly highly digestible sources such as soya and maize, is essential for young calves with immature and developing rumen. Providing calves with high by-pass protein can help maximise growth potential.

Wynnguard Health Package

Our unique Wynnguard health package aims to improve efficiency and support the gut immune system. The inclusion of ‘Apple Molplus’ (a rich caramel appetite enhancer with an apple aroma) helps encourage starter feed intakes and maximise growth rates.
